The popular social network Facebook has proven to be a useful communication and organizational tool in the 2009 Red River Valley Flood. Several flood related groups have been set up on the network with two of them claiming memberships in the thousands.
FirstLink volunteer Kevin Tobosa created the Fargo – Moorhead Flood Volunteer Network which sends out updates to members regarding volunteer opportunities.
Go Radio Broadcasting created the group Fargo – Moorhead Flood Information and has been able to send out information updates to its members. In addition, members have been able to post questions and get answers on the group’s wall and message board. Some members have posted photos of the sandbagging operations showing the National Guard and community volunteers operating the new spider sand bagging machines.

What an amazing response to the call for volunteers. Keep up the great work, Fargo – Moorhead!
