UPDATE: At approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning erosion under a flood panel at Oak Grove School allowed water to enter the campus. City crews and National Guard immediately responded. They were unable to contain the leak. Water came up through the floor of the affected building and infiltrated the rest of campus. Residents between Oak Grove School and Elm Street were advised to plug their sewers if they had not done so already and monitor their basements.

One of Oak Grove School’s permanent flood wall panels buckled at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, causing water to enter the campus. City crews and the National Guard were immediately dispatched to the scene and are currently trying to repair the compromise in the floodwall. Two buildings have been lost.
INFORUM reports:
“Glenn Hanson of the Fargo Police Department said that water and sewer backup has filled the lower levels of Benson Hall and the new Scheels Performing Arts Center. Bruce Messelt, president of Oak Grove, said that they have lost two buildings and are at risk of losing four. Messelt said the situation is ‘devastating.’
Bruce Messelt, president of Oak Grove, said the leak on the permanent dike is located on the north end of the Oak Grove school campus, behind a part of the campus known as the old administration building. Sandbags were and are being transported to the breached dike and into the building.
The National Guard, fire department units and police are on the scene. Heavy equipment such as dumptrucks and payloaders as well as area lights were also being moved onto the scene. The school’s emergency dike surrounding the school was breached by the first responders to move sandbags into the area. That spot is being repaired.”
From the Oak Grove website:
“Oak Grove Lutheran School experienced a breach in the steel dike on the north side of campus. The campus has been evacuated.
NO ONE is to attempt to go to campus. Dike patrol teams should not report to First Lutheran. Oak Grove’s server and phone lines are down.”

Crud!!
Hopefully the rest of the school buildings can be saved. Good luck guys!
