RED RIVER REGIONAL DISASTER ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM (DART) PLANS EMERGENCY ANIMAL SHELTER
Red River Regional Disaster Animal Response team which is made up of City and County Emergency Managers, FM Humane Society, Adopt-A-Pet, NDSU Veterinary Technology Department, Red River Zoo; will open and operate an Emergency Animal Shelter at Red River Valley Fairgrounds should residential evacuation be implemented.
The Emergency Animal Shelter will be mobilized when Fargo or Cass County issues a voluntary evacuation advisory indicating residents in an area should begin making plans to evacuate.
Emergency Animal Shelter will provide shelter to the companion animals (cats/dogs) of Fargo, Moorhead, Cass and Clay county residents who need to evacuate their homes.
The Emergency Animal Shelter will house cats and dogs only. Exotic animals and birds will be accepted by the Red River Zoo. The Cass County Extension office is working on plans to assist large animals/live stock.
However, we are urging all residents to make arrangements for their pets by asking for the assistance of friends and family who can help house their pets in the event of an evacuation. That is a less stressful option for the companion animals.
More information will be shared with the public as it becomes available.
