Workers affected by floods may qualify for unemployment insurance

Workers who have lost employment due to flooding across the state may qualify for Unemployment Insurance (UI) payments and should visit www.jobsnd.com or call 701-328-4995 for more information and to file a claim.

As an example, employees of businesses that have been closed due to flooding or preventive efforts may qualify for UI payments.

Job Service North Dakota, the agency that administers UI in the state, assists employers and workers with issues related to unemployment. At this time, other disaster-related relief, such as loss of business income, is not available through Job Service.

If the disasters worsen, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) may be added to the current disaster declaration, which would provide UI benefits for qualifying business owners who otherwise may be ineligible for regular UI. Job Service will issue a public notice if DUA benefits become available.

For other flood or disaster-related relief, please call the N.D. Department of Emergency Services at 701-328-8100.
